Weekly Struggles: Writing an HR Blog!

Weekly Struggles: Writing an HR Blog!
September 25, 2023 by Jeff Watt

Welcome to the wild world of writing for an HR blog, where every week is a rollercoaster ride through the mind-numbing maze of corporate lingo, policy jargon, and the perpetual quest for the perfect metaphor for workplace harmony. Let’s dive into the struggles that HR bloggers face as they strive to enlighten the masses, one painfully perky article at a time. And just between us, the reason I’m writing this article is that I’m fresh out of ideas for the real blog. Shh, don’t tell the boss!

1. Finding Fresh Topics: The Never-ending Treasure Hunt

Picture this: You’re trapped in an endless scavenger hunt for the world’s most riveting HR topics. Should you write about the thrilling world of employee performance appraisals for the thousandth time, or perhaps explore the scintillating subtleties of office etiquette? Decisions, decisions. And, well, that’s why we’re here today, folks.

2. Staying Current: Time Travel Required

HR is a field that evolves faster than you can say “human resources.” To stay current, HR bloggers must possess the elusive ability to time travel. One moment you’re writing about the wonders of telecommuting, and the next, you’re tackling the intricacies of holographic job interviews. Keeping up is like chasing a perpetually sprinting gazelle. Unfortunately, my time machine is in the shop for repairs.

3. Balancing Depth and Brevity: The Tightrope Act

Writing concise yet comprehensive articles is a task akin to tightrope walking across a sea of HR handbooks. You must dive deep into complex subjects while leaving readers with enough brainpower to complete their daily tasks. It’s a delicate dance between “Too Much Information” and “I Need More!” Today, I’m here to offer you a front-row seat to this high-wire performance.

4. Engaging the Audience: The Art of HR Charisma

Engaging HR topics can be as elusive as a unicorn in the wild. HR bloggers must possess the charisma of a motivational speaker, the storytelling prowess of a novelist, and the meme-generating skills of a social media influencer. After all, who can resist a riveting article on the intricacies of expense report submission? At least, that’s what I keep telling myself.

5. Handling Writer’s Block: The Creative Drought

When inspiration packs its bags and leaves for a vacation in the Bermuda Triangle, HR bloggers face the looming specter of writer’s block. In such dire moments, they resort to summoning the HR gods for divine intervention, which usually involves excessive coffee and random keyboard smashing. Case in point: this masterpiece of sarcasm.

6. Avoiding Repetition: The Art of Recycled Wisdom

With a finite number of HR topics, you’ll find yourself recycling advice more often than the office printer jams. But remember, it’s not plagiarism; it’s “strategic content reuse.” And today, my friends, we’re strategically reusing the “struggles of HR blogging” topic.

7. Ensuring Accuracy: The Legal Tightrope

Navigating the treacherous terrain of HR means tiptoeing on a tightrope of legality and ethics. One wrong move, and you could find yourself in a courtroom drama better than any TV show. HR bloggers must double-check their facts and cover their tracks, all while keeping a straight face. Or at least attempting to.

8. Dealing with Controversial Topics: The Diplomatic Dance

When it comes to sensitive subjects, HR bloggers must wear their diplomatic hats. They must walk the fine line between expressing opinions and not offending anyone, a task as precarious as doing the limbo on a string of bureaucracy. Today, I’m attempting the limbo while carrying a stack of HR handbooks.

9. Managing Feedback: The Comment Section Fiasco

Ah, the comment section – a playground for armchair HR experts. HR bloggers must be prepared for feedback ranging from glowing praise to virtual tomatoes thrown their way. It’s all part of the thrill ride of HR blogging! And today, I’m inviting you to join the rollercoaster with me.

In conclusion, writing for an HR blog is a noble and challenging pursuit, filled with more twists and turns than an office chair obstacle course. It’s a world where fresh topics are unicorns, deadlines are the enemy, and handling controversial topics requires the finesse of a diplomat. Yet, HR bloggers press on, armed with their wit and humor, to enlighten the corporate masses, one satirical article at a time. And remember, I wrote this because I’m fresh out of real blog ideas. Cheers to HR blogging!
